^{SUPERVISED VISITATION (SV)}

The SV worker provides supervision of the visitation for the CHFS families who have had their children removed and who have been identified as a risk to their children to the point that they cannot be alone with them.  The SV worker provides guidance, mentoring, education and information to the parent(s) of the child(ren) to help the families prove they can interact safely with their children.  The SV worker provides documentation to the family’s CHFS Case Worker on the family’s progress or lack of progress in the visitation toward the CHFS goals. This documentation assists the CHFS worker in making a recommendation to the court whether to continue the supervised visits, to return the child to the parent(s) or terminate parental rights.  Beginning at a local site that the SV worker sets up to make the room as home-like as possible; the visits continue, hopefully transitioning from a meeting site to the family’s home and overnight visits.  The goal with any family referred to this program is the reunification of the child with the caregiver/parent(s).  However, the safety of the child is the primary concern of all involved with the family’s case plan.  The documentation of the SV worker is often the deciding factor in the CHFS worker’s recommendation to the court.  The number of families that a single worker may have at any one time is dependent on the location, the distance between SV visits, as well as the number and duration of weekly visits and the intensity of the family situation.

Only DCBS may make referrals to this program.

^{HOME BASED SERVICES (HB)}

In-Home Based Services are intensive, short-term, home based intervention services offered to families at-risk. Services develop, support, and empower the family unit by teaching problem-solving skills, assisting parents in becoming advocates for themselves, and teaching them how to utilize community resources. These services occur in the home and focus treatment plan to address the family’s practical and material difficulties. The services teach the family how to live together safely while addressing their immediate needs.

Home Based Services can be referred by any agency or individual, including self-referrals.
